Joran sat on the couch, spreading his legs across it so no one would sit next to him. He might be the Slytherin prefect, but he didn't like a lot of the people in his house. He'd only gotten the badge since he wasn't like them, he was sure. He set down the Charms textbook and closed his blue eyes. He ran his fingers through his perfect black wavy hair and wished it wasn't so perfect. Finally he sat up straight and pulled out a fresh roll of parchment, it was time to get started on that essay Flitwick wanted by next friday.

Zoe saw Joran stretched out on the couch and blushed, both because he was gorgeous and becuase she was annoyed at him for taking up the entire couch. Burying the affection and letting the annoyance have her head, Zoe walked over to the couch.
Ignoring the fact he was a bit older than her, and the Slythering prefect and really hot, she shoved his legs off the end of the black couch and sat down where his feet had been previously, taking out a roll of parchment and starting on an essay for Snape.
She felt him start beside her, but she didn't move, seeing as she'd placed herself so she could only move toward him or off the couch. She simply pretended not to notice.

Joran stared at the girl who'd sat next to him. Zoe[ he rembered her name was. He'd always though she had the most beautiful eyes, they were violet. He also remembered that she didn't openly speak out against those who weren't pure blood. However, that didn't mean she didn't still support it. Instead of speaking to her, he sat forward once again and spread his book and essay over the coffee table in front of the couch.

Zoe had to physically restrain herself when Joran didn't order her off the couch. She'd been rash, and, as one of the less radical Slytherins, was often bullied for being rash. And when you were bullied in Slytherin, you had to bully right back, something Zoe was good at, but hated doing, and so often down-played her skills at the art. (If you could call it an art, and some did.) Showing no outward change, she dipped her quil in her ink and started to write.
She had writen almost half of her assignment when she splattered the ink all over her parchment. Zoe let out a long sigh before getting out a fresh parchment. She didn't know the spell for cleaning it up, and, though Snape probably wouldn't dock her for it, she knew he would dock any of the other houses for the same offense. And Zoe was not going to get good grades because Snape was easy on Slytherins. She was going to get good grades because she deserved them.

Joran smirked a bit and pulled his wand from his robes. "If I may?" he asked, and without waiting for an answer, muttered the spell to clean up the spilled ink, leaving only her words on the parchment. "I've gotten very good at that one thanks to my klutz of a sister." he explain with a smile.

Zoe blinked. "Um, okay, thanks," she said, offering a weary smile. "Your sister? She's in Ravenclaw, right? I've never met her. Is she nice?" Zoe shut up when she realized she was babbling. It was something she did when she was surprised, regardless of who she was talking too. Zoe realized that his sister being in Ravenclaw instead of Slytherin might be a sore subject to him. Zoe herself didn't care. Why should she? His sister, uh, Vivian was still a pureblood, no matter what house she was in. "Sorry," she muttered, and truned back to her stupid essay.

"It's not a problem. Viv is...well, very shy. She doesn't have a whole lot of friends...if any. And our parents are so hard on her, just because she got put in a different house. It makes me really angry, but you know how parents can be sometimes. Nothing I say seems to chage thir mind. But she's still my best friend." he said with an emabressed smile.

Zoe smiled sadly. "Yeah, parents suck sometimes." She bit the inside of her cheek, remembering all the stupid things her parents just didn't understand. "But that's okay. It must be great to have a sibling though."

Joran shrugged. "It's nice to have someone around who understands, yeah...You an only child?" he asked her.

Zoe nodded. "Yeah. I'm sure it would also be nice to have someone around who diverts your parents attention and critisms. Beign their focus... well, sucks," she paused, "But I guess you know something about that."

Joran nodded with a sigh. "Since Viv didn't make into slytherin, my parents gave up on her. Which i'm very happy about, don't get me wrong. But instead, they focus only on me now. I can stand up to them better than Vivian though, she'd make a horrible servent of the Dark Lord." he finished quietly, not wanting anyone to over hear the conversation. It wasn't something a lot of his fellow slytherins would like to know.

Zoe bit her lip, understanding the reason for his quietness. She tried to find a way to say it. The secret she had that would cause her parents to disown her. How to say 'I don't want to be a Death Eater' with out actually saying it? She couldn't figure it out, so she decided not to share her secret. "Standing up to your parents is difficult. I can't stand up to mine."

Joran nodded. "Most of us can't. I can only persuade them to let me choose my own classes and sometimes escape to live with other friends for short breaks. As for my future? Entirely up to them..." he muttered.

Zoe nodded. "I know exactly what they want me to do, and-" she paused. There it was, the opportunity. Zoe decided to continue. "I just don't want to do what they want. Not anymore," she said, her voice just barely above a whisper. "Not that they know that," she added, even quieter."

Joran's voice had lowered to a soft whisper as well. "It's the same way for me." he confided. "And I don't dare say anything to them. They'd disown me on the spot if not doing something worse first. And I can't leave Vivian with them, she'd never meet their expectations....not that I will either."
